Indian Railway 17 SuperFast Trains Running Late

Indian Railway 17 SuperFast Trains Running Late

TRAIN services on Nagpur-Itarsi-Nagpur route in Nagpur Division of Central Railway were crippled on Saturday taking its toll on commuters who faced severe inconvenience. Post derailment of a coal rake at Ghoradongri. the Overhead Equipment (OHE) in the Ghoradongri yard was damaged resulting in disruption of power supply. The Grand Trunk route re-opened for train traffic on Saturday at 5 pin. approximately 19 hours after the derailment.
The cause of Friday night accident is still under investigation hut it left the railway officials red-faced. For Central Railway this is second big mishap, the first was the derailment of Diva passenger in Ratnagiri.
Meanwhile, movement of long distance trains got slowed down as the critical section was not available for service. About 17 Superfast Express trains were reported running late and three trains including Rajdhani, a premium train and Duranto Express were diverted through Bhusawal route to avoid piling-up. Nagpur-Bhusawal Express and Chhindawada-Amla Express were reportedly cancelled.
SuperFast Trains Running Late Details, Canceled Train Details 2014

Central Railway have directed probe into the matter. A junior administrative grade (JAG) inquiry has been ordered. The inquiry committee will probe the reasons that led to mishap and submit its findings. Prima facie, Madhya Pradesh State Electricity Board appears to be at fault and it is being suspected that the goods train derailed due to excess amount of coal loaded in the train. Sources informed that die goods train with 20 wagons of coal was heading towards Ghoradongri station after it was loaded at Sarni coalfields when the accident occurred. The coal laden wagons suddenly rolled back at 9.45 pm and hit the OHE pole resulting in damage to wires. The accident led to derailing of train movement on busiest Grand Trunk route between Itarsi and Nagpur as OHE on UP and DN line has suffered severe damages.
The coal wagon hits two OHE poles when it rolled backwards and the high voltage wires were broken and fell down on track. The wire also got entangled in locomotive of Secunderabad-Gorakhpur Express which was just entering the station and just three of its coaches managed to enter the platform.

Nagpur - Itasri Rail Track Repairing Work Complete

Nagpur - Itasri Rail Track Repairing Work Complete

AIDED by huge support from local villagers. Central Railway fast tracked repairs on Nagpur-Itarsi segment and restored it for traffic after 96-hours of gruelling work. Around II am after the light engine ran through the newly laid track, the first passenger train moved quickly, leading to all round applause. Before that for four days, the division pitch forked its entire labour force and started the work from the scratch.
The emergency work, second time this monsoon in Nagpur Division, was necessitated after the earthwork ahead of Barbatnur station got washed away in flash floor of Machna river. The UP line on Grand Trunk route between Nagpur and itarsi left the train operation in tatters. Nearly 40 feet of gorge developed due to washing away other earthen embankment which led to suspension of traffic on UP line.
With only one line available, the train operations slowed down leading to late running of trains. Now the operations are limping back to normalcy and would take one more day before order is completely restored.
After receipt of information on Friday morning, the division officers swung into action and post Sindi episode the men and material was already in place. About 140 wagons of heavy boulders, sandbags and ballast was required lo fill-up the gorge. Besides six pokeland machines, two JCB and eight tractor aided the operation to restore normalcy.
What was the unique part of the entire operation was massive support from the locals in Barbatpur and ShahpurGram Panchayat area. The fact thai Divisional Railway Manager <DRM > Brijesh Dixit hails from the area led to quick deployment of nearly 1500 villagers whose efforts aided the departmental labour. While during the day time the villagers work to ferry the material, during the night the departmental teams carried out the repair work.

In the Railway Budget. a direct service between Nagpur and Ajmer was announced hut the train is yet to materialize  In the meantime, divisional authorities tried to run a special service about which there was total confusion within the railways till the last moment. Finally, when the train was announced, travelers did not even had information about the same.

Indian Railway New ARP (Advance Reservation Period) IRCTC

Indian Railway New ARP (Advance Reservation Period) IRCTC

LEAVE it to Ministry of Railways to flummox its travellers. In its latest missive, the Railways has halved the advance reservation period (ARP), from 120 to 60 days. The new rule comes into effect from May 1. 2013, excluding the date of journey. Just a year back the ARP was increased from 90 to 120 days, that time the in-charge of Rail Bhawan was a different man. And now when new rule is notified the rein of Ministry is with different political party.
Cancellation rule, however, has not been tinkered with and it remains unchanged. Mean, tickets purchased in as per current ARP of 120 days can be cancelled alter new ticket booking rules comes into effect.
As indicated by Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal in his budget speech, the new ARP rule is aimed at curbing the men ace of touts. But. Railways know how to justify each of its new step and pass it on as "one in the interest of travellers."
However, if studied minutely, it seems Railway Board has bend backward to accommodate each of the new missives of its ever new bosses.
Earlier, while revising ARP from 90 to 120 days, the Railway justification was. it helps in planning for deployment of trains on basis of advance information about travel plans.
Now. that very decision stands rescinded when touts started cornering reserved tick-els leaving last minute travellers in a fix. The ARP was extended to 120 days from March 10. 2012. Has Railways now realised its folly or just sailing with the Minister's desire.
But not many know the logic of increasing ARP to 120 enabled Railways to sit on pile of money of travellers for a long period. That was also the logic during decision taken in year 2007-08 when ARP was increased from 60 to 90 days. The Railways logic was quite simple, it benefited either way. during booking and also during cancellation, as there was hefty cancellation charge which traveller paid.

India's First Train, First passenger train journey India, 1853 1st Indian Train journey,

India's first passenger train journey  on 16 April 1853, the first passenger train service was inaugurated between Bori Bunder in Mumbai and Thane. Covering a distance of 34 kilometres (21 mi), it was hauled by three locomotives, Sahib, Sindh, and Sultan. This was soon followed by opening of the first passenger railway line in North India between Allahabad and Kanpur on March 3, 1859.

In twentieth century India had a multitude of rail services with diverse ownership and management, operating on broad, metre and narrow gauge networks. In 1900 the government took over the GIPR network, while the company continued to manage it. With the arrival of the First World War, the railways were used to transport troops and foodgrains to the port city of Mumbai and Karachi en route to UK, Mesopotamia, East Africa etc. By the end of the First World War, the railways had suffered immensely and were in a poor state. In 1923, both GIPR and EIR were nationalized with the state assuming both ownership and management control.

160th anniversary of the first passenger train in India is the subject of Tuesdays' Google doodle.

The history of rail transport in India goes all the way back to 1832, when a plan for a rail system in India was first put forward. The first rail line in the Indian sub-continent came up near Chintadripet Bridge (in modern-day Chennai) in 1836 as an "experimental line". In 1837, a 5.6 km long rail line was established between Red Hills and the stone quarries near St. Thomas Mount.

However, it wasn't until 1853-54, when two new railway companies, Great Indian Peninsular Railway (GIPR) and East Indian Railway (EIR), were created, that the railways as we known it today began to take shape. GIPR was asked to setup near Mumbai, and EIR was to setup a railway line near Kolkata (Calcutta at the time). Thus, the first train in India became operational on 22 December 1851 for localised hauling of canal construction material in Roorkee.

16 April 1853 was the historic date when India's first passenger train journey took place between Bori Bunder in Mumbai and Thane. Covering a distance of 34 kilometres, it was hauled by three locomotives, Sahib, Sindh, and Sultan.
Google on Tuesday marked the 160th anniversary of the first passenger train journey in India with a doodle on its homepage.

The search engine giant takes its visitors on a short journey into the history of Indian Railways, with a train pulled by a steam engine along the palm-lined railway track. The first 'O' of Google depicts the front part of the steam engine of the passenger train. Indeed, 16 April, 1853, was the day on which the first commercial passenger train left Mumbai's Bori Bunder for Thane.

Now Leading Trainls of India Are Following :

1 Duronto Express These are the non-stop point to point trains (except for operational stops) introduced in 2009 connecting metros and major state capitals and are faster than Rajdhani Express. They consist of first AC, two-tier AC, three-tier AC and sleeper classes.
2 Rajdhani Express These are air-conditioned trains linking major cities to New Delhi. They are one of the fastest trains in India, travelling at about 130 km (81 mi) per hour. There are only a few stops on a Rajdhani route.
3 Shatabdi Express and Jan Shatabdi Express These are air-conditioned and non-airconditioned respectively intercity trains for day travel. They generally have only seats. Some of them also have one coach with berths.
4 Garib Rath These trains contain AC three-tier and AC chair car coaches with fares less than the fares for the same classes in other trains. They are almost as fast as Shatabdi and Rajdhani trains.
5 Superfast Express These trains have an average speed greater than 55 km (34 mi) per hour and stop at a few stations. The tickets for these trains have an additional superfast surcharge.
6 Express and Mail trains These are the most common kind of trains in India. They have more stops than their superfast counterparts but they stop only at relatively important intermediate stations.
7 Passenger and Fast Passenger These are slow trains that stop at most stations along the route and have the lowest fare. The trains generally have unreserved seating accommodation but some night trains have sleeper and 3A coaches.
8 Suburban trains These trains operate in urban and suburban areas of major cities, usually stop at all stations, have unreserved seating accommodation and also have one or more separate coaches only for women. They have the same low fare as passenger trains. Monthly and quarterly tickets (referred to as season tickets) for suburban trains are also available at subsidised prices.
