Now, students will have to pay penalty for cancellation of admission

THE candidates who wish to cancel the admissions in government- and municipal corporal ion-run medical and denial colleges after October 10, have 10 pay die penalty of Rs 10 lakh. Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) has issued the notification. Though die Supreme Court had set September 30 as the cut-off date for all admissions to health science courses, the 50 seats each in Nagpur's Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Akola GMC were increased. Due to which the dates of admissions to the first-year medical and dental (MBBS/BDS) courses in the state were extended.

The apex court on MCI plea on September 30. had ruled that the with the peculiar facts of the case, in respect of all the colleges in the state of Maharashtra admission process would be completed within a period of two weeks.

The DMER has since released an additional selection list and schedule of two additional admission rounds with the extended cut-off date set for October 14. The first list was released on October 5 and the candidates were required to report to the allotted colleges by October 8.

The second additional selection list is to be released on October 11 and the candidates have to join the allotted colleges by October 14. which is the extended cut-off for 2013-14 admissions.

In another notification, the DMER has referred to the likelihood of seats remaining vacant at four private unaided medical colleges, including two in Pune. and two private unaided dental colleges, including one in Pune. on account of the 100 additional seats at the GMCs in Nagpur and Akola.

MONDAY turned to be a memorable day for people of Vidarbha and especially for those aspiring to become doctor, thanks to a bitter legal battle coming to an liap-py end before the Apex Court.

As per Supreme Court's directions, there will be additional 50 MBBS seats each in Indira Gandhi Government Medical College (IGGMC) and Akola Government Medical College (GMC) from the current academic year itself. Supreme Court of India on Monday dismissed the special leave petition filed by Medical Council of India (MCI) and directed it to immediately sanction 100 additional seats for these two-government run hospitals and also extended admission date as a very special case.

MCI had challenged order of Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court dated August 28, directing it (o sympathetically consider case of IGGMC and Akola GMC for grant of 50 additional seats each. Out of these additional 100 MBBS seats, a total 70 scats will go to students from Vidarhha. But instead of taking sympathetic view as desired by the High Court. MCI had refused to grant additional intake and instead challenged the order before Supreme Court.

The High Court division bench consisting of Justice Bhushan Gavai and Justice Z A Haq. in an order passed on August 28, had directed Maharashtra Chief Secretary to furnish a concrete undertaking to MCI about removal of deficiency of IGGMC and completion of its modernisation within time-bound manner. About Akola GMC. there was shortfall of 18 days for completion of 10 years. As one time measure, the Union Health Ministry has decided to permit 50 additional seats to all Government-run medical colleges which are more than 10 years old and. due to sheer apathy of Maharashtra Government, the region had lost the precious medical seats.

THERE is a reason to smile for the people in Vidarbha as Maharashtra State Cabinet, on Thursday, has given approval to three Government medical colleges in State, and two out of it are from Vidarbha. There was a long pending demand for Chandrapur. Gondia and Baramati which was fulfilled by the Government. Dr Vijay Kumar Gavit. Maharashtra's Minister of Medical Education took an initiative and given a gift to Vidarbhites.
All the three medical colleges will be having 100 seats each with 400 beds.For every 100 seats, Medical Council Of India has made it mandatory for the Medical College to have the hospital attached to it with 400 beds.
District Hospital is already there ai all the three places. Only some modifications will be made and it is expected that all the colleges will be operational by the year 2013. Chandrapur district hospital has 16-17 acre land. Government has asked some land on Mul road, 5.5 kms away from Chandrapur district hospital  On this land, hostel, college building will be set up.
Government Medical college at Gondia was expected to come up. It is said that classes will begin from July 2013. To run classes. Gondia has KTS Government District General Hospital.

THE Supreme Court on Thursday allowed private medical colleges, deemed universities and state governments to conduct their own entrance examination for post-graduate medical courses for the academic year 2013-14. but restrained them from declaring the results.
An interim order passed by the apex court bench consisting of Chief Justice Altamas Kabir, Justice S S Nijjar and Justice J Chelameswar while hearing a bunch of petitions transferred from various High Courts including Andhra Pradesh and Madras, granted interim order in favour of private colleges and slate government. The court directed the listing of the matter on January 15 2013. Medical Council of India (MCI) had seni oui a notification stating thai it will conduct a common exam called National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET). As per the notification, private colleges would not be allowed to conduct the exam. Private medical colleges across the country had challenged the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to post-graduate courses in the academic year 2013-14. According to the MCI's regulations, all medical colleges' seats for post-graduate courses would be allotted from the national list and the state-wise merit lists prepared by it. Besides this, the regulation provided that 50 per cent of all the post-graduate courses seats would be Til led by the candidates selected by their state governments. All private colleges and universilies had challenged the validity of the MCI notification and sought to allow them lo conduct entrance examination. Several siate governments have opposed MCI's notification to conduct a single common entrance medical examination and filed petitions in Supreme Court against it. These private universities and state governments were conducting the entrance exams so far. MCI notification barred them from doing so. The petilions againsl MCI's notification had contested the validity of the medical body solely conducting the examination and had argued that it was an interference. MCI had conducted the MEET exam in November for the academic year 2012-13. Some private colleges and institutions had already conducted the examination before the notification came out.
